Cumbrian Landscape Images

My name is Chris Burgess and I am learning to be a landscape photographer. I have reached the Associate level of the Royal Photographic Society distinctions (ARPS) and am now working on a portfolio for Fellowship status. The standard required is very high so I am going to be taking my time.

I have been to the Lake District on holiday for many of my approximately sixty years of life. A few years ago, my wife and I were lucky enough to be able to move here and we live in the beautiful village of Ambleside in the southern area of the National Park.

In the seventh and final volume of his pictorial guides to the Lakeland Fells, Alfred Wainwright says β€œThe fleeting hours of life of those who love the hills is quickly spent, but the hills are eternal. Always there will be the lonely ridge, the dancing beck, the silent forest; always there will be the exhilaration of the summits. These are for the seeking, and those who seek and find while there is yet time will be blessed both in mind and body.” This is a perfect summary of how I feel about the Lakes - I certainly feel blessed in mind.

Through my photography I try to do justice to the natural beauty of the land and to convey something of the emotion I feel when walking the fells, lakeshores, woods and valleys with my camera. I hope you enjoy looking at the images on the site as much as I enjoyed producing them.
